This note sets out where the material on these pages comes from, how often it is looked at again, and what has been left out on purpose.

How the hotels were chosen

Each category holds a fixed number of houses, and a hotel enters it only if enough can be said about the building from published material. Where a property could not be described without guessing, it was passed over. Hotels are not scored, placed in order or set against one another anywhere on the site.

Which sources are used

The hotel's own site comes first, followed by published maps, planning and heritage material where it exists, and press coverage of the building. Where two sources disagree, the entry keeps only what both support. Nothing here is written from a stay, and no material is taken from booking platforms or from guest reviews.

What is not here

There are no prices, no stars, no scores, no room counts and no booking links. Opening hours are not printed, because they move. Nothing about gaming floors is described: the Canadian resorts are covered as hotels and as buildings, and their licensed floors are left alone.

How to read the winter section

The buildings in the ice section are seasonal. They are cut from snow and ice, they stand through one winter, and they are raised again from nothing the following year, so a description records a type of building rather than a fixed structure. Dates, access and what remains open outside the season are settled with the hotel, never here.

Telling us about an error

If something on these pages is wrong or out of date, write to us and say which entry it concerns. The contact page holds the address. Corrections are read in the order they arrive and the entry is checked again against its source.
